The Edesu Senate banned execution in civil courts yesterday, ending a century old policy in order to pursue divine mercy.

EEE is a bizarre place. Currency is no exception.

The extremely stabile Edesu rubov is a combination of the following:

Edesus never even see a single rubov. It is a mostly theoretical currency used by economists primarily as a unit of account. (Econ students love to use it as a base measurement, for this reason.) Only people at the top of Edesu ministries ever think of rubovs for budgeting. The Trade Ministry thinks of these units constantly.

Anyways, I have been considering adopting the Nexus Credit as EEE's official currency, due to our twp nations' trade. If I were to do so, EEE would need direct influence over the supply of Nexus Credits. We can't have Osclantine going ballistic with moneyprinting or something.

Consider it. Edesu backing would strengthen your currency. Otherwise, we'll stick with the rubov.

The sudden appearance of the Great Spacepope market caused oil and food prices to soar, benefiting Edo Edi Essum, the world's foremost producer and exporter of both. EEE is the preeminent grower of wheat, barley, sugar beets, sugar cane, wine, grapes, beef, dairy products, poultry, corn, tomatoes, fish, rice, coffee, sugar, tea, tropical fruits, and other products. EEE produces slightly fewer potatoes than Osclantine. [We're the agricultural giant; deal with it. We produce the majority of Hiborea's food.]

Extraction of Norateoan minerals has augmented Edo Edi Essum's solvency. EEE currently holds a monopoly on aluminum, gold, and chrome (stainless steel) production, as no other nation creates much of these essential products. EEE has been profiting greatly from exported jewelry using Edesu gold, diamonds, and less valuable gemstones.

Edesu labor costs remain the lowest in the world, allowing EEE to manufacture any product at a fraction of the price elsewhere. [This is not unreasonable. Labor is any employer's greatest cost. EEE can and will steal your manufacturing jobs. You rich nations just can't compete.]

A new fad has arose in Osclantine. Members of the Church of Purity now proudly purchase Edesu exports. They're not just buying what's cheapest; they're supporting their Christian brethren abroad. This sudden jump in the popularity of Edesu exports has also strengthened the Edesu economy.

A decrease in military expenditures combined with greatly curtailed space spending has allowed this economic recovery to take its full effect.

After nine [RP] months of protest and organizing, the Edesu citizenry has gathered enough signatures to trigger a recall of Supreme Holy Technocrat Roberto VI. His popularity peaked at 99% during the EU invasion of the Annex. Since then, due to the humiliation at Port Allansberry and the shameful police and military actions in occupied Edesu Hijjma, Roberto VI's popularity has fallen to 21%. Edesu nationalists abhor his cowardice at the Port Allansberry Treaty, ceding Hijjma to capitalist powers in exchange for peace. Fundamentalist communists and pacifists hate his imperialist policies in Edesu Hijjma.

Viceroy Clevin's (Hijjma) popularity hovers at a measly 4%. Clevin plans to transform Edesu Hijjma into an independent, capitalistic nation. His frequent use of oppressive police measure and the military have won him no loyalty among Edesus or Hijjmans.

Likely forerunners in the upcoming recall election are the incumbent SHT Roberto, Minister of Justice Doctor Amelia Konlay, Minister of War Jordan Kriegipaz, Minister of Equity Lola Mes, Senator Adam Jeniku of Bazra's second district, Senator Rebbecca Plaina of the Annex Oil District, and the archbishop of Mora.

New Numair wishes EEE transition of power [if there will be] to be peaceful and nonviolent

The most thorough of security was readied for the press conference. The room was filled with press, high officials, and enthusiastic citizens. A dozen cameramen from the Media Ministry were called in to record the event. (EEE gives away all its media content for free to the world. TNN and NNN get first dibs, however.) Representatives from many foreign media firms were also present.

Roberto VI walked to the podium and began after the cheering subsided. (It used to be much more enthusiastic.) "Greetings, my fellow Edesus. Edo Edi Essum has experienced great turmoil during my brief reign of three years. As you all know, we have expanded our borders to the Annex, Hijjma, and even Norateos. This expansion has been the primary cause of our economic depression; its costs were astronomical. Our massive modernization campaigns in the Annex strained the national budget immensely. Additionally, war with the Elite Union brought Edo Edi Essum to the verge of bankruptcy."

"This struggle has paid off. EEE was already the greatest agricultural producer in all of Hiborea. However, with the conquest of Hijjma, Norateos, and the Annex, Edo Edi Essum now produces half of Hiborea's agricultural products. While exporting food and oil does keep the Motherland solvent, greater economic expansion was needed to ensure prosperity."

No capitalist nation can even attempt to compete with our minimal labor costs."

"I inherited Catherine the Prosperous's great nation. Since then, three years of struggle have made Edo Edi Essum greater than it ever was. For over a hundred years, Edo Edi Essum sat quietly as an insignificant isolationist country. Now, we are feared by the capitalist pigs of the world. Rasvidi's most recent witch trial can attest to this."

"I understand that the proletariat no longer desire my leadership. I will not ignore their cries. Therefore, in this press conference, I have two lasts decrees. Penultimately, our great nation shall be renamed. Edo Edi Essum is the name of the old regimé, the monarchists. We are not serfs, we are proud Edesu communists. Henceforth, we shall be known as the Holy Edesu Socialist State (HESS)."

"Finally, Minister of Finance, Doctor Roth S. Childs [PUN] retired yesterday at the age of 77. I hereby appoint myself as her successor, resign as Supreme Holy Technocrat, and drop out of the recall election. Thank you for your time, and God Bless the Holy Edesu Socialist State!"

Roberto VI quickly hurried away from the podium, leaving scores of the media's questions unanswered.

Senator Rebbecca Plaina had won the election. It was amazing how quickly she had catapulted herself to the very top of Edesu politics. Originally a simple administrator for the Oil Ministry, Plaina had distinguished herself as an articulate and tenacious lawmaker in the Senate, spearheading far more legislation than any other senator in her brief tenure of three years. Rebbecca Plaina had become one of HESS's most popular politicians, solidifying her chances for achieving the coveted position of Supreme Holy Technocrat. Roberto VI's recall provided the opportunity, and now she was the youngest SHT in Edesu history, being only 40 years old.

Her inaugural address [which I am far too lazy to write/plagiarize] had made one critical point clear: she would not copy Roberto VI's belligerent foreign policy. She would oversee the recovery of the Edesu economy and build up HESS's far-flung territories. Rebbecca Pliana would seek greater peace in the world, but would not refrain from war if HESS's enemies became aggressive.

Now, my country's recovery remains a work in progress. Nonetheless, I will list the factors the triggered my depression, and those that are causing the recovery.
