Rasvidi has picked a new national flag, as outlined by the Rasvidi constitution upon the cessation of the post-revolutionary period. The previous flag displayed the Rautaristi (Iron Cross), the symbol of the Volkhov Republic before it's fall. It was chosen by the revolutionaries because it reminded them of more successful and easier times, when the Volkhov Republic was at it's height and controlled much of modern day Rasvidi. Nevertheless, it was never designed to be a national emblem, and provisions were made in the Constitution allowing the flag to be altered or completely changed after the constitutional end of the post-revolutionary period. It has since come to be viewed as somewhat obscene, as an attempt by the Volkhov Republic to establish control over the other republics. Indeed, most federal buildings outside of Volkhov tend to fly the flags of the local Republic as opposed to the Rasvidi flag.
The adoption of the new flag is expected to end this issue, however. The colours have been changed to a deep red to symbolize sacrifice and courage, with black to signify authority and austerity. The red star (Rohkeus) in the middle symbolizes revolution, and the black fist (Väkevä) in it's center symbolizes the strength and unity of the people. The new flag was chosen specifically so it would speak to every citizen of Rasvidi, although whether or not that is actually the case has yet to be seen. The design is based on the winning proposal submitted by various individuals and groups from across the UPRR. It was approved by a majority vote in the council.
