Good evening. I am Veronica L. Yuu, the head of research in Nexus Incorporated: Branch of Medicine (NxBoM). I wanted to express my apology for not being able to respond during the time of the start of the epidemic. We also regret that while we might have had the chance to stop the spread of infection with our latest antibacterial medications, we were not able to and the situation has gone worse that any of our greatest speculations.

While Oscalantine still has not made any official statements regarding this matter, we in the Branch of Medicine would like to investigate this disease. With your permission, we would like to send three of our medical research groups into the heavily infected areas to not only to try to research the disease, but to try to control and contain the disease best at hand. With our latest medical technology, we are sure to at least be able to contain the infection to a smaller area.

At the same time, I must state that this IS indeed research group. We are doing this for corporate reasons... reasons to make profit. While our group is entering for humanitarian reasons, we have to make some kind of profit by doing this. Therefore, I would like to warn you beforehand that we are coming to salvage whatever we can. And I have seen the recent reports that the cause of this disease is nuclear radiation. If this disease is by any chance linked to secret government project, we might discover it and turn it into Nexus Inc. While we are indeed coming in here and working for... *gulp* free... we are going to be here for corporate reasons as well as humanitarian. Please keep that in mind.

Again, you have my and my fellow research department's sincere apology that we were not able to enter the nation in advance. And you have our word that we are coming here to research and cure the disease best we can... if, that is, you are willing to let us.

Rasvidi has announced that most of the tourists that were detained have succumbed to their illness. However, two tourists from Gracealona, three from King Isaac, one from Isis Rakael and one from NX401 continue to survive on life support, but aren't expected to live long. Experimental treatment has been started on these patients in a last-ditch attempt to save their lives, with one patient seemingly stable after administration of penicilin. Rasvidi scientists are confused by the emerging symptoms, seeing symptoms typically found only in radiation poisoning and symptoms only found in bacterial infection. A bacterial infection would typically be impossible at these levels of radiation poisoning; what's more, the patients seem to regain much of their radiation sickness after it has been treated, without any apparent or obvious exposure to a radiation source.

More alarmingly, reports are coming in that individuals who have survived or traveled within the nuclear site at Kazan are coming down with early symptoms. The government has sought to round these people up and transport them to the quarantine facility, and has begun to cordon off the region around Kazan.

I have to say this is just a failure of a secret government project. The weapon that we were creating was to be used in the war, but it leaked. We also have good news. Oscalantine Department of Health has given us permission to mobilize our forces into your land, to help finish up the fight against the plague. We have currently sent 30 doctors along with 150 volunteers into Maynila to help fight the worst of the plague. With your permission, we would like to enter the quaranteened area of Maynila to help whoever is left alive. Or if you would like for us to be better served elsewhere, please let us know. The doctors will be arriving at the harbor in your city of Navotas, and will stay in the city to aid the infected until further notice.

Thank you! The doctors that you sent are now residing in the "Manila Hotel", the best and the most expensive hotel in KingIsaac.

Your doctors will be asked to go to the hospitals and government clinics of Maynila and Navotas, where the disease is not yet under control.

After several days of fiddling with attempting to fix the radiation sickness, one of the patients that has been sent to Oscalantine has passed on. The other 14, as 15 patients have been admitted to quarantined sector, are continuing to thrive under Oscalantine's latest life support experimentation. Few of the patients' conditions are quickly deteriorating, and psychologists from Oscalantine are called upon to ensure that the patients do not give up and keep on fighting the disease.

Oscalantine researchers have also found the same tricky situation as Rasvidi medical team has: the patients seems to be getting radiation sickness within hours after they have been tested negative for radiation poisoning. This has been confusing the doctors of Oscalantine and the news is shocking the entire medical community in Oscalantine.
Oscalantine research team has given the announcement that they support Rasvidi team's findings, as their treatment facility has been completely controlled with very little chance of radiation from any sources. Oscalantine team has also announced that contrary to Rasvidi's team, their admission of penicillin was ineffective in all patients, showing no sign of disease stopping. Oscalantine's best antiviral drugs also yield no positive results.

Oscalantine has given a proper burial to the one dead. It was debated within Oscalantine as to whether to use this corpse for more intense analysis, but many citizens of Oscalantine voted against such acts of violation, as dead needs to be respected. This movement was mainly supported by many of Oscalantine's Christianity factions, who have been behind the scenes insisting that Oscalantine give these patients a humane experimentation, if any at all. While Oscalantine is frustrated at this turn of events, they have no made any formal statement about their issue with religion within their country.



The doctors that have been sent to KingIssac are currently still working to treat the infected. While much of the volunteers have gone to Maynila, where most help is needed, doctors have stayed fairly evenly distributed within the two cities. Medical supplies, and more so precious water and fresh clothes are dropped into Maynila with help of Nexus Incorporated daily, as fresh water and clothing, as well as sanitary foods are hard to come by in Maynila after the initial strike of disease.
The doctors in the field was unable to find anything significant. Their findings, however, seems to support Rasvidi team's research, although they show different results. While like Rasvidi team's results, the infection has reduced with the admission of penicillin in Navotas, in Maynila the disease shows no sigh of stopping even with the admission of stronger antibiotics. Whether this is due to fungal properties of penicillin or the antibiotics itself remains to be seen, but many doctors in field speculate that if the infection is bacterial, which is unlikely, the bacterias themselves are mutating in lightening-fast speed due to radiation.

100 doctors, 800 chemists, and 600 scientists teamed up together to search for the cure. The group was named "Association of Medicine Experts". They are currently experimenting on 100 infected citizens of KingIsaac. Queen Jeny gave an order on the group that no citizen shall die or be abused under their care. Queen Jeny gave $5,000,000,000 to the group to finance their research.

The Rasvidi Government has now halted all progress on the reclaimation and reconstruction of Kazan as more people within the area begin to fall ill. The area has now been cut off from the outside world with a military cordon, and nobody has been allowed to enter the area. Those still remaining within the affected area, or those who enter unlawfully, are fired upon if they attempt to flee the area. These measures are being taken to prevent the potential spread of this illness.

Rasvidi scientists have examined the blood and tissue of infected victims and patients, and have made an alarming discovery; their bodies are teeming with a previously undescribed species of bacteria that seems to reproduce rapidly. What's more, the bacteria seems to be the source of the radiation that is causing the sickness in patients; like most bacterial infections, they are concentrated in the lungs and other mucous membranes throughout the body. How the bacteria are able to handle and even thrive under such levels of radiation is unclear, as conventional wisdom states that such things are not possible. Several theories are being entertained, such as the bacteria being composed of a non-carbon base, unlike the rest of Tiberiam life, one which implements radioactive elements as an integral component of the cellular structure.

Consistent with the findings of Oscalantine scientists, Rasvidi scientists are finding the treatment of penicillin to be less effective. This has been explained through a more rapid evolutionary path in the bacteria, which is already rapid in normal bacteria, caused by the mutagenic effects of the radiation. Rasvidi scientists are currently searching for a more universal cure to the illness, one which would attack the radioactive materials in the cell structures of the bacteria, possibly by making the isotopes more stable and less radioactive. It has been theorized that a certain level of radiation must be maintained to allow basic functions to proceed in the bacteria.

Since the borders of Edo Edi Essum are notoriously closed (good luck getting in or out without much official consent), EEE is well-guarded to disease. In response to the disease, the Interior Ministry has heightened precautions. The Health Ministry is survey the proletariat for infection. No domestic cases have been reported (yet).

EEE estimates the disease to have a 64% fatality rate under the best of care. Of the 100 crew members, only 36 remain alive. All are quarantined in Mora under the care of doctors in biohazard suits.

The Health and Disease Research Ministry has had a breakthrough. The malady spreading across Tiberiam is a bacterium related to Deinococcus radiodurans. The new bacterium, christened Deinococcus satanicus, is exceptionally immune to radiation and shares the genus's remarkable ability to repair DNA damaged by radiation. Unlike its cousin, unfortunately, Deinococcus satanicus is extremely deadly.

The Edesu HDRM will continue its critical research and pray the disease does not spread or mutate further.

As the day progressed, another victim was claimed by the deadly plague. She, a young woman in her 20’s, were given a proper burial thanks to many of Oscalantine’s Christian branches. 13 patients now remain in the quarantine, and they are all fearing the day that when life support cannot sustain the deadly engine of destruction. With many people in fears, Oscalantine’s worst nightmare has surfaced: one of the researchers in search of the cure has been infected. The researcher does not know whether this is due to airborne disease or contact with the chemicals, but this has shown that the bacteria can quickly adapt to sanitary environment. Further quarantine was set in place by Oscalantine, as now medical and commercial supplies are dropped to medical research facility by helicopter now instead of being delivered. The infection in Oscalantine soil has raised tension, and Oscalantine quickly stated that Corporate Oath, in which the Nexus Inc will be in control of country’s affairs until the situation has calmed down.

With Corporate Oath in place, the Christian groups in Oscalantine has all been shut down until further notice, as they were bothering with the “efficiency of the government in dealing with this new plague,” said the Nexus Officials. The Nexus Inc has also started to put heavier hold on trades, as they have been going through complex measure to ensure that any trade coming in from KingIssac is stockpiled in a nearby island, where it will be stockpiled until further sanitation has been accomplished.

In all this despair, a glimmer of hope is shown. The scientist that has been infected willingly volunteered to be tested for all medication, regardless of their side effects. Five of the remaining 13 victims transferred from KingIssac have also volunteered into harsh experimentation. This will allow Oscalantine’s research team to search for the cure more quickly.

Now with the Corporate Oath and proper, willing volunteers in place, Oscalantine team is now ready to take on more complex and dangerous operations, which includes the new antibiotic medication that has been known to work on all the current tested bacteria. This groundbreaking medical technology, known as Experiment AB-521, is to be implemented on five of subjects for testing. The expected side effects of Experiment AB-521 will include but not limited to severe loss of immunity, inability to digest for certain period of time, loss of hair similar to chemotherapy, and or severe case of infection. Scientists speculate that due to sanitary conditions that the patients are in, the Experiment AB-521 will be successful in most patients. If two of the three tested subjects come out healthy, the research team is planning on implementing the drug to every patient in the quarantine.

Another branch, however, is strongly against this treatment, and is attempting a different cure. This branch believes that because bacteria are not infecting patients with bacterial symptoms, the cure can be simply established by feeding the bacteria an agent that reduces the radiation within the strands of bacteria. This research team hopes that this method will be able to “convince” the bacteria off of their radiation and thus saving the patients from severe case of radiation. Despite hopeful outlooks, however, the medication is not yet ready to be tested, and there is always speculation that the bacteria’s radioactivity will continue as they continue to multiply. Some even fear that if patients are treated in this way, outbreaks will happen like smallpox in the past, where citizens will be periodically infected with radiation every now and then due to this type of bacteria reverting back to its original status quo.

Regardless, the two research teams are working feverishly to find their individual cure. Meanwhile in the field, Oscalantine Doctors in KingIssac are fighting an uphill battle. The situation is getting under control and places are being stabilized. However, the infected are unable to live a day without having to need to come back for retreatment. Doctors are, however, hopeful, as there is another groundbreaking technology that they can wait upon.

This new technology, created by the Nexus Incorporated, is capable of being worn and able to inject anti-radiation serum into the body at regular intervals. This device was originally in place as a military project, allowing soldiers to take adrenal shots whenever they felt uneasy during the wartime. However, for the sake of treatment, the doctors are going to obtain the prototype to use on the patients, who will now be able to return to their daily lives with a very simple surgery to install the devise into the body. The shipment will soon arrive, and many denizens of KingIssac will be able to return to their normal lives soon and wait for the cure to arrive.

Some, however, condemn Oscalantine and Nexus Incorporated in testing such a dangerous prototype in field at such a short notice. Nexus Incorporated has been known to field test all their military prototypes in a dangerous manner, often times resulting death to several subjects. Nexus Incorporated has made a private statement that the current prototype being released to KingIssac has already been tested and is more than capable of being released safely to the masses. Media in Oscalantine, however, continues to condemn Nexus Incorporated’s actions still. Regardless, this new prototype will be shipped to Navotas in a few days. The shipment will then be distributed throughout two cities by the Oscalantine doctors and volunteers. Doctors in field are hopeful that this new technology will have the people in KingIssac up and running once more.

The reports said that the death rate because of this disease was reduce to 20,000 from 500,000 because of the Association of Medicine Experts invention, the Rx1. The Rx1 is a medicine created from mixed antibiotics, namely "Amoxicillin", "Co-Trymoxazole", and "Tetracycline". The new drug has also some other ingredients like "Lagundi" and "Paracetamol" and other ingredients which was not revealed to prevent other nations of developing their own. The drug is being sold at $5,000 per capsule. It should be taken 3x a day for 2 months. But the government of KingIsaac bought 5,000,000 capsules of Rx1 and distributed them for free but only for KingIsaac's citizens.

Other nations can buy the said drugs at $8,000 per capsule.

While the war against the disease raged on, no new victims were claimed. However, few were coming dangerously close to their bodily functions stopping. Oscalantine team has been furiously working for the cure of the disease, and they have been achieving breakthroughs.

Meanwhile, Oscalantine government has been outraged at KingIssac’s ungrateful actions, charging extra for the medications that have been proven effective for the disease as well as not revealing the medication’s ingrediants. While Oscalantine was relieved that the cure existed and disappointed that the cure was not found by them first, they were outraged that the medication was being charged outrageous amounts, when Oscalantine and many other countries have all went though dumping their precious capital to help the country of KingIssac. Oscalantine responded to this ungrateful action by immediately cutting all funds that were being sent to KingIssac as well as retreating all the doctors and volunteers from the nation. They will stay in the quarantined area and will be cured by their own means.

The doctors, despite their orders to retreat, decided to say. Approximately 25 doctors and 50 volunteers, half of the amount that came to KingIssac, decided to stay and continue to combat the epidemic. The medication has been proven effective, and many people were cured of their disease. Doctors were relieved that they were able to control the disease. The doctors helped to distribute the medication that the KingIssac government has provided for its citizens, while spending even their own limited fund to purchase expensive, $8,000 medication to help the foreigners that were not as fortunate to obtain the KingIssac citizenship yet.

However, the progress was painfully slow, and with lack of funding, soon only the KingIssac’s citizens were able to afford the funding, while the camp began to pile up with infected foreigners and immigrants that have came to KingIssac for work or education. This has caused the problem, as doctors started to petition their government, Oscalantine, that if these cases are not treated right away, there will soon be disease that are capable of overcoming the antibiotics Rx1 that KingIssac has invented, and quick mutation speed of the bacteria.

Before the response could even arrive, the doctors in the field soon despaired as mutations of bacteria resistant to Rx1 emerged. Slowly but surely, they started back its engine of destruction, and soon even the people who have been cleared of the disease started getting second infection of this plague and returned to camps. What’s worse, the people in quarantined areas, primarily foreigners and immigrants, have left to work in order to obtain the cure for the expensive drug that were not provided for them, and the resistance bacteria was now spreading quickly.

There was, however, hope. Oscalantine branch has quickly abandoned usage of AB-521 in the light of the mutation factor. They have, instead started development of their newest method of feeding the bacteria what they want to eat, and decreasing the radiation level in the bacteria itself.

The plan proved to be effective. The new medication, using breakthrough methodology of biomass materials, were able to encourage the bacteria to eat the food that is produced by the cells through the medication and lose the radioactive properties, stopping the radiation poisoning in a roundabout manner without making the bacteria die or mutate. This method proved to be more permanent, as this method encouraged the bacterial growth than discourage, making sure that the bacteria that have eaten and lost their radiation levels more likely to survive than their less-willing brothers.

Knowing full and well that the disease should be stopped as soon as possible, Oscalantine has sent the blueprint to manufacturing the drugs to all nations, including Rasvidi team as well as the ungrateful nation of KingIssac. The people from KingIssac that has been cured, however, decided to stay in the Oscalantine, obtaining citizenship and accepted to the part of the society by the Oscalantin’e many Christian communities. The doctors who have decided to stay in the KingIssac has been receiving this medication, and have been seeing great results with their patents.

This medication, known as GluttonX, cost Oscalantine 10% of their healthcare budget to develop. The medication itself, made using chemicals as well as a common biomass of a moss, costs little over $5 to produce an individual pill. These pills are to be taken thrice daily and until they have been tested negative. Oscalantine’s medical team encourages all nations to produce this pill and continue to feed its citizens until the epidemic as completely stopped, as $15 a day per citizen is hardly anything compared to epidemic that could ruin the country.

The Association of Medicine Experts confirmed that Rx1 is unsuccessful, but only because of the overdose of secret ingredient that will boost the virus in the body of the patient. The Department of Health of KingIsaac have changed the formula of Rx1 and is being distributed again to patients.

The result was good. The patients got well, but one bad side effect was found: the patients who took the medicine had rashes over the body. The rashes was quickly treated by the dermatologists, and it healed. The total cost of all medicine, including the medicine for rashes, was reduced to $3,000 for foreigners, and free for citizens.

The medicines that was sent by the nation of Oscalantine is also being used but was found to take effect slower than the new Rx1. The Rx1 would only take a week to take effect but the GluttonX would take a month or two. However, it is also being used for poor foreigners who can't afford the new Rx1.

All of those who bought the old Rx1 had a refund.

Now, there are few fields in which the nations of Edo Edi Essum truly excels. The three most notable are academia, piety, and mass production. Through glorious communism, EEE commonly produces products at a third the cost elsewhere. The Edesu government is notorious for its shameless and incessant copyright infractions. Needless to say, GluttonX and Rx1 were no exception.

Three new medical factories had recently been built in Kolbertiko, one which specialized in pill production. This enormous factory manufactured half a billion pills daily. A fraction of the machines were readjusted to produce GluttonX pills. Within a day, ten million were prepared.

GluttonX pills would be solely for $3 on the open market. EEE would generate a profit, and more diseased people would have access to treatment. Who could complain?

Meanwhile, The Edesu government petitioned KingIsaac to disclose the formula for Rx1.

The Association of Medicine Experts got a sample of GluttonX and they found our that GluttonX can be very fatal if overdosed. It is also found that GluttonX has side effects, such as: diarrhea, fever, cold, and cough and some patients are having typhoid fever. The Association of Medicine Experts concluded that it is because the bacteria is being reproduced as it eat the GluttonX.

The Rx1 have developed a new side effect: fatigue and insomnia. It has been expected that they will be side effects of Rx1 because of it's secret ingredient, on which the Nation of KingIsaac is afraid to expose for moral reasons. For sure many Catholics will condemn the Rx1. Even Queen Jeny.

The cost of ingredients to make a capsule of Rx1 is $4,000. And because of the generosity of the government of KingIsaac, they reduced it to $3,000. Now, the price of it is reduced again to $1,000 because the government of KingIsaac have afforded to buy 1 billion capsules, which is enough to cure 5,000,000 people. The Rx1 is found more effective and faster to cure patients.

In Maynila, there are 5,000 people still infected by the disease. In Navotas, there are 1,000. In other cities, there are no reported cases of people being infected by the disease.

The Nation of KingIsaac sent 1,000,000 capsules of Rx1 on Rasvidi, Oscalantine, and other infected countries for free.

While Oscalantine was not infected in the mainland, it still appreciated and accepted the gift of Rx1 from the KingIssac. Oscalantine has decided to rethink its rash actions and repelled the funding spenditure on the doctors in the KingIssac. Regardless, Oscalantine is no longer willing to invest vast capital into the disease anymore now that the disease is being reined to a halt.

Regardless, Oscalantine managed to salvage various known facts about the disease and was able to bolster its biological researches. Oscalantine has claimed several different samples of the bacteria has placed the bacteria in its NDR, or Nexus Disease Research. There are very little known about NDR except that in the highly controlled, air-tight environment, various diseases are researched. Perhaps not on our time or our next generation, but eventually NDR will start showing promising results… with this new disease included in its vacuum-sealed doors.

Oscalantine, after the statement by KingIssac, that they were encouraging the growth of a different bacterium along with the radioactive one. GluttonX project was immediately scrapped and was replaced with GluttonXI, a medication that was a remedy of the previous Glutton series. GluttonXI was still the same in a way that it increased the bacterial population and encouraged de-radiation of the bacteria, but unlike its predecessor, it made sure that other bacteria will not benefit from this medication by strongly discouraging the consumption by making the feed unappetizing to all other species of bacteria. However, Oscalantine did state that due to one species of bacterium being so closely resembling the radiation-inflicted bacteria, a light fever will still come with the medication. This fever will gradually be reduced as the medication continues, and it is strongly encouraged that GluttonXI be consumed with the fever medication for weak and elderly, as medication does not conflict with the fever-reduction medications.

Oscalantine team has deemed that while it was possible to speed up GluttonX from its speed of one month, the more concentrated dose could be fatal, as KingIssac team has announced, though its independent research. Therefore, GluttonXI did not increase the dosage, and the time that is required for GluttonXI remains the same as GluttonX: one month of continued dosage. However, because GluttonXI now discourages its consumption by other bacterium, the overdose of GluttonXI is, although still not encouraged, not as fatal, as the only side effect would be severe fever which could easily be controlled. However, there has been reported cases of allergy with GluttonXI, unlike GluttonX counterpart. Nexus Inc. has announced that GluttonXI should be treated with test, and that the company is not responsible for any allergic reaction of the GluttonXI. GluttonXI’s allergic reaction could include but not limited to sniffling, sneeze, and rash. GluttonXI manufactured from Oscalantine includes simple test that are capable of being utilized by even commoners. As long as they can see the simple diagrams drawn in the directions, it could easily be tested and administered. Allergic cases of GluttonXI is very limited, affection less that 2% of the tested cases.

Oscalantine has also lauded, but was skeptical of EEE’s ability to produce. The $5 for GluttonX was strictly for its material cost of chemicals per medical box, which contains a dozen pills, of GluttonX. GluttonXI, with more advanced chemicals, now cost a raw price of $5 per three pills, making the medication’s price go slightly higher, making the box of dozen cost approximately $20 in raw price alone. Oscalantine has decided to sell their batch, along with the allergic tests, for $25 dollars until the plague has completely been reduced. The cost includes only one dollar for profit, as other four dollars are for shipping and production fees.

The doctors and volunteers slowly started to thank the KingIssac for its help in allowing them to assist the sick, and started to head home. Currently there are twenty doctors and thirty volunteers in KingIssa, with many with plans to leave by the end of this week.

Nexus has also gained a lot and salvaged quite a bit of technology with this plague.
